Cybèle Stein is a ceramic
artist, who specializes in creating hand-built, functional ceramic art. Her
unique hand stamping and glazing techniques, coupled with Mediterranean and
Asian colours and styles, produce a highly textured, one-of-a-kind item that is
both vibrant and functional.
She began her
training in 2010, while recovering from a severe ankle and knee injury. She
soon discovered that working with clay was not only a deeply satisfying,
creative outlet during her convalescence,
but that she also had an innate
talent for working within this medium.
She studied ceramics in
Toronto, with Filipa Pimental, Shane McNutt and Michelle Kosoy. During this
time, she continued to develop her unique style for creating multifunctional
ceramic ware.
In October 2012,
Cybèle officially launched her ceramics business - Π (Pi) Ceramic Designs. She
has appeared in several arts shows and sales, including, Artscape-Wychwood
Barns Arts Market; The Toronto Indie Arts Market; Made by Hands Gift Show, The
Bazaar of the Bizarre; Cabbage Town Arts Festival; and the Huronia Festival of Arts and Crafts
(Kempenfest).
She is also a member
of the Huronia Festival of Arts and Crafts, vendor committee.
In September 2013, Cybèle established her production studio within the AKIN Collective in Toronto.
She now works full-time at creating her art. Her goals for 2014 include further
brand development across Canada; developing potentially long term wholesale
clients; and, participating larger shows and exhibitions.
In March 2014, Cybèle made her debut at the One of a Kind Show - Spring edition.
Her ceramics are
currently available for retail sale at Objects to Desire, 1 Livingston Avenue,
Grimsby Ontario.
